Data sources

Every figure traces back to an official record.

We don't estimate, model or scrape. Each line on a Kerbside Check report comes from a named authority, pulled live at the moment you run the check. Here's exactly what we use and what it tells us.

DVLA

Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency

The registration authority for every vehicle on UK roads. It's the definitive source for what a vehicle is and what it costs to keep taxed.

What it feeds on the report

  • Make, model, colour and year
  • Fuel type, engine size and CO₂
  • Annual road tax (VED) band and cost
  • Current tax status

How current

Pulled live at the moment you run the check.

DVSA

Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency

Runs the MOT scheme. It holds the complete test history for the vehicle, including every advisory and failure a tester has ever recorded.

What it feeds on the report

  • Every MOT test, pass or fail
  • Recorded mileage at each test
  • Advisories and failure reasons
  • Current MOT expiry date

How current

Pulled live at the moment you run the check.

MIAFTR

Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud & Theft Register

The insurance industry's shared register of total-loss claims. It's how we know whether an insurer has ever written a vehicle off, and in which category.

What it feeds on the report

  • Insurance write-off records
  • Category A, B, S or N classification
  • Recorded scrap markers

How current

Checked at the point of the full report.

PNC

Police National Computer

The national police record. We check it for an active stolen marker so you never buy a vehicle that's reported as taken.

What it feeds on the report

  • Stolen-vehicle marker
  • Date reported, where available

How current

Checked at the point of the full report.

Availability

Full report only

How we handle the data

A vehicle report is about a car, but it still has to be handled responsibly. Here's our part.

We check cars, not people

A report describes a vehicle and its history. We don't compile profiles on buyers or sellers.

Live, then logged

Data is pulled live for each check. A copy of your report is stored so you can return to it, timestamped with when the data was read.

Registered with the ICO

We're on the Information Commissioner's Office register under ZB672104 and handle data under UK GDPR.

No selling your data on

We don't sell or share your searches with dealers, marketers or anyone else. Your check is yours.

Accuracy & corrections

A report is only as accurate as the records behind it. If an authority's data is wrong or out of date, our report will reflect that. The date and time we pulled each record is printed on every full report so you always know how fresh it is.

Think something's wrong? The record holder is the place to fix it. MOT data via the DVSA, registration and tax via the DVLA. We'll happily re-run your check once the source is updated.

Kerbside Check is an independent company. We use official data supplied by the DVLA and DVSA but are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the DVLA, DVSA or gov.uk.
